Lexington B&B'S - A Home {away from home} for Holiday Guests

By Barbara Rizza Mellin

The holiday season is upon us, and how wonderful it is to share this time with friends and family. However, while we may be fortunate in having relatives to spend the holidays with, we may not have enough room to comfortably accommodate them. That's where a Bed and Breakfast provides the ultimate hostess gift. Thanks to the tourist draw of Lexington, our town boasts several wonderful B&Bs that allow you to offer your guests, welcoming accommodations complete with breakfast. And someone else will even make the beds.

Each B&B has its own personality, and some even offer a surprise or two. Morgan's Rest, for example, greets visitors to the top of Follen Hill, with a choice of three tastefully decorated rooms, all with private baths. Quilts or peach-colored down comforters cover the twin spool beds in the Follen Hill Room, Antique mahogany furniture accents the elegant, double-bed Sunset Room, aptly named for its west-facing windows. But the third bedroom, with lots of space and a king size bed, contains a real bonus. It includes a full-size pool table with all the set up, so guests may indulge in a little billiards before bed in the Pool Room. There are also books and videos, high-speed Internet access, and a microwave available for guests. Owners Alexandra and Jonathan Bartsch claim their 1940's house, in which Alex grew up, was a Bed and Breakfast "waiting to happen." Since they converted her childhood home to a B&B five years ago, the Bartsch's have enjoyed sharing it with people from all over the globe.
